SMALL BUSINESS • Excellence in small business was recognized at two Calgary-based firms Monday evening.
ICS Group Inc., which offers climate control management through portable heating, drying or cooling equipment, was named the 2009 RBC Royal Bank Small Business of the Year. Founded in 1999, ICS operates throughout Alberta and has been involved in many large projects in Calgary and area, including the Canadian Tire Distribution Centre, Calgary Airport expansion and the Calgary Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Kon-Strux Developments Inc., a Calgary-based residential renovation firm, was named the 2009 GoForth Institute Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year. Kon-strux was founded in 2007 by partners Shannon Lenstra and Fran Morisset and takes a unique approach to everything from interior design to project management using processes typically seen in the commercial construction industry.
The awards, organized by the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and announced at a gala dinner, mark the start of 2009 Small Business Week. The companies were among three finalists in each category.
